How to Finally Master Your Presenting Skills in 2025

Back to insights, news & events

Whether you’re heading into a job interview, pitching a business idea, presenting data to your boss or addressing your team as a leader, at some point - you’ll need to present.

And we want to make sure you are ready for it.

Great presenters are not necessarily the loudest or most extrovert people in the room.

They know how to get their point across, keep their audience engaged and speak with confidence.

Their voice is steady, clear and well-paced, sometimes with a little bit of humour (depending on the situation) to keep things light and relatable.

So, let’s kick this off:

1) It’s not just what you say but how you say it

Your body language speaks just as loud as your words.

You need to:

  • Make eye contact – but don’t freak them out!

  • Use hand gestures naturally.

  • Stand or sit with confidence – no slouching or fidgeting.

2) Keep it clear and to the point!

Nobody likes a rambler or an 80 slide presentation:

  • Start strong – hook your audience in immediately.

  • Use storytelling – stories help to persuade.

  • Have a clear structure – start, middle and end.

  • Ensure you have a key message – if they only remember one thing… what should that be?

3) Know who you are talking to

A presentation that completely WOWs your team may not go down as well with your CEO.

  • Know what matters to your audience.

  • Speak their language – tailor to suit different audiences. What do they care about? Data? Vision? Action?

  • Adjust your energy – know when to bring it and when to control it.

4) Manage your nerves effectively

It’s okay to feel nervous, remember that nobody wants to see you fail at this and it’s okay to make mistakes. People want to hear what you have to say!

  • Practice out loud! It will sound different out loud than in your head.

  • Breathe before you start!

  • Prepare prepare prepare! As the saying goes failing to prepare – prepare to fail.

5) Engage your audience

You don’t just want to be talking AT them, get them involved! If your audience starts checking their phones – it’s game over.

  • Ask questions – involve the audience when possible.

  • Ensure your slides support and not distract from your message.

  • Vary your tone – No monotone or droning!

  • Use pauses for effect.

6) Handling tough questions

  • Keep calm and take a moment to think before answering. Avoid swerving the questions by skirting around it or rambling.

  • Reframe it – ‘That’s a great question, here’s how I look at it…’

  • If you don’t know, just own it – ‘Let me check and get back to you’.

  • Nobody is born a great presenter – it’s something you learn, refine and improve over time.

The more you do it, the easier it will get!

Prepare, show confidence and engage the audience, stay composed and own the space!

You’ve got this!
